FAQs about nikki wo's services

What exactly is Learning About Life?
LAL is a small group of home-schooled students coming together for part-time, routine, structured core classes and select enrichment classes.  Students participate in class discussion and activities and go on field trips for applied learning practices. Students also have the opportunity to participate in new LIVE lessons, offered weekly during the health pandemic.

Is a parent required to stay on premises during class time?
No.  When classes are in session at the studio, after the pandemic, parents will not be required to stay on premises.  This is a drop off program, with the exception of field trips and our HELP volunteer experiences. Students enjoy time learning with their friends and welcome their parents back with smiling faces at the end of their learning session. Parents, feel free to run your errands, enjoy quality time at home, or do lessons with your other children during this time. We have you covered!

What resources do you use for lessons?
At LAL, the idea is not to stick your child's head in a textbook and expect them to read the pages all day and answer questions or to stick a worksheet in front of them.  Our group has discussions, Q&A time and use multiple resources such as reliable internet pages, online tutorials, DVDs, podcasts, resource books, first hand resources - people, encyclopedias (YES!) and more, to research the topics further.
*Students will be required to keep an interactive notebook to review notes. We aim for free resources, but sometimes have to go the low cost route.  Curriculum fees help cover the cost of materials, print outs and other materials used.  We aim to keep costs low so parents supporting our program by purchasing items as gifts or for themselves, help LAL cover the remaining fees.

Are field trips included or mandatory?
LAL believes students can, and will, benefit from applying what they have learned, in the real world. We believe the world is our classroom and aim to go out into the enormous playground of life as often as we can. They are not mandatory to attend, though participation is encouraged.  Because instruction time is limited, field trips are an added bonus to learning and we aim for free, or low cost, outings. Do not feel obligated to attend.  Parents of enrolled students are welcome, but are not required to attend the field trip outings if their student attends.

What do I need to provide for my student to have a successful program at LAL?
At the time of registration, you will be provided a page with the necessary information.  The basic supply items vary depending on the class/program option you choose. If your child will be learning to sew, they will need a sewing machine.  A basic BROTHER or SINGER machine will be sufficient enough. If taking photography lessons, students will need a basic DSL camera.  Point and shoot cameras are fine, as long as students are able to select different settings.  No phones will be permitted for learning in this class. Materials used during online tutorial sessions will be provided by instructor.  Otherwise, your student will have "Researching Further" assignments to complete at home.  (We promise not to take up too much of their time from other obligations). : )  LAL will provide lists of curriculum resources to you at the end of the year for your child's portfolio.

Why do you have SESSION classes?
SESSION classes/programs are a great way for families to participate, but not commit, to a longer term program for financial reasons, or their interests/commitments to other homeschooling groups that may run for a certain amount of weeks. As homeschoolers, we want to try to squeeze in a lot and be sure we have "well-rounded" students.  This is a way to help parents participate in our program yet participate in others as well.  We share the love!

Do you offer tutoring?
Sure do!   We understand some children may need a smaller, quiet space to figure things out a bit easier, without distractions.
East Orlando and South Orlando/Kissimmee are the areas we provide tutoring for, on select days.
Also available, ZOOM or Video Call sessions; one-on-one sessions and online tutorials are available.  Message [email protected] for more information.

What type of payment do you accept?

Cash, Cash App, Venmo and all credit card payments are accepted via Square or paid via invoice using Paypal. No personal checks.
If paying in cash, please be sure to put payment in an envelope with the child's name on it.
If paying via Paypal, please be sure to use the email address [email protected] .
